Pop-up book shop at Boone Tavern, Festival Dancers wants new members, Berea College outranks the rest
Pop-up book shop
Festival season is in full swing in Berea, beginning with the Appalachian Writers Conference’s Pop-Up Bookshop on Wednesday, September 3, from 11 AM to 6 PM, at Boone Tavern.
“The Appalachian Writers Conference is about more than writing; it’s about community. The Pop-Up Bookshop is a way to open doors to this writing community and celebrate extraordinary authors,” said Melissa Newman, president and CEO of Martin Sisters Publishing, and host of the Appalachian Writers Conference.
Admission is free to the pop-up shop where you can interact directly with authors who “reflect the spirit, history, and imagination of Appalachia,” said Newman.
Festival Dancers
Open to kids ages 12 through 18, all are welcome (there are no auditions) to join the Berea Festival Dancers. It’s an opportunity to travel, socialize, and have fun dancing. Two open houses will be held September 7th and 14th, at 4PM, at the White Oak Pond Church in Richmond. For more information: bereafestivaldancers.org
Berea College ranked top college in the US
Washington Monthly, based in DC, has ranked Berea College the number one college in the nation, due to its “no-tuition model, minimal student debt, and commitment to opportunity”.
Paul Glastris, editor of the magazine, wrote in the announcement, “Unlike other rankings that emphasize ‘prestige’ and selectivity, the Monthly measures what really counts—commitments to public service, research, and social mobility.”
