Thanks to the good folks who contacted The Edge with their announcements. Please support your community by attending these events beginning today.
Happy May Day! If you’re inclined to dance, today’s your day. In Old Town Artisan Village from 5 PM to 8 PM, there will be fun and festivities, including Morris and May pole dancing, vendors, and food.
The Berea Community School JAG (Jobs for American Graduates) lost its funding in the financial mess that has befallen Community School. The program offers the 160 students now enrolled practical problem and vocational skills so they are able to become employed and prosper. The program has raised $10,000 of the $47,000 it needs in order to continue operating for another year.
Help Berea’s JAG program reach their goal of raising another $37,000 by attending a benefit concert tomorrow, Friday, at Union Church. Details below:
If you would like to write a check for JAG:
Make it out to JAGKY with a note in the memo section that it is for Berea JAG. This way it will be directed to Berea Community’s chapter of the program. Then mail it to 2365 Harrodsburg Rd. B 330. Lexington KY 40504.
And anyone who has ever sung in the Berea College Choir, or participated in combined choir events will know and appreciate Dr. Stephen Bolster’s fine conducting skills. Come support Maestro Bolster as he auditions to become the next artistic director of the Kentucky Bach Choir!
The concert is on Sunday, May 18th, at 7:30pm at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington
Bolster will conduct an uplifting program entitled, “Strengthened by the Spirit: from Despair to Hope, from Darkness to Light”. Featuring both a cantata and a motet by J. S. Bach, the program also includes works by Heinrich Schűtz, Josef Rheinberger, Felix Mendelssohn, and Stephen Paulus.
Ending the program is a jubilant chorus from Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”.
